Green Screen Paint:

  • Vibrant Green Hue: Green is commonly used because it is the furthest colour from human skin tones, making it easier to separate subjects from the background.

  • High Luminance: Green has a brighter, more intense luminance compared to blue, making it more effective in well-lit environments.

Blue Screen Paint:

  • Deep Blue Hue: Blue screens are typically used when filming subjects that contain green elements, like outdoor landscapes or clothing.

  • Less Light Reflection: Blue is darker and reflects less light than green, making it ideal for lower-light scenes.

Application and Considerations:

  • Even Surface: Both types of paint need to be applied evenly without streaks, as variations in colour can disrupt the chroma keying process.

  • Lighting: Proper lighting is essential for both green and blue screen setups. Shadows, uneven light, or reflections can cause the chroma key to malfunction, leaving unwanted artefacts in the final footage.

These paints are widely used in visual effects, weather broadcasts, video games, and virtual production environments, offering a versatile tool for creative media manipulation.
